Toxin-Fighting Turmeric Tea

August 13, 2017

Hey! It’s Magda here blogging again for the first time since Mateo was born (8 months ago). Wow, time just zooms by with a tiny human being. Anyway, these past few months have been somewhat of a rollercoaster for me in terms of health. For the first real time, I actually have to try to lose weight, meaning really push myself to make a change. Unfortunately, being home all day kinda got me stuck on raiding the fridge for snacks all the time and sitting on my butt to entertain the little one. So I’m ready to take control of my body again.

Green Smoothie- Hormonal Balancer

May 16, 2017

Esme:

I haven’t blogged on this site for over a year. Last year was extremely busy for me. I had my first trial, and afterwards it seemed it took me the rest of the year to recover. I’ve switched jobs, and my sister’s had a baby. We’ve been enjoying life, and cooking, but we somehow haven’t made it on this blog. I still greatly enjoy cooking as a hobby, and if you follow us on instagram at (thencomescooking) then you know! Anyways, I’ll try to come on here more and post a few recipes that you guys are more interested in. Thanks for reading and checking in with us.

I’ve been into smoothies lately. This one is a very basic smoothie that will help you keep balanced hormones, will help you keep a regular digestive tract, keep you feeling full, and will provide a large amount of protein. The avocado adds vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, Potassium, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin E. The protein powder I use is soy-free, plant based, and provides several amino acids, on top of 20 grams of protein. Enjoy.

Mango-Banana-Pineapple Smoothie with Maca

March 1, 2016

E: I highly recommend this smoothie. The burst of tropical fruit early in the morning really wakes you up and encourages you to start your day. Plus, it’s fully loaded with fiber, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, etc. You will not be disappointed.

Research has shown that mango has antioxidant compounds which have been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. Pineapple is good because it has a lot of fiber. A diet high in fiber helps reduce risk of constipation, heart disease, and possibly cancer. Plus the  fiber keeps you full and can help you lose weight. Bananas have high potassium content and they are an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function.

Tangy Vitamin C Punch

July 23, 2015

M:  A while back, a friend of mine from church shared with me that she regularly does juice cleanses. So later she brought two of her favorite juicing books. There are a ton of recipes but I am trying out the ones that I can make with the fruits and vegetables I usually have. One of them is this recipe with only three main ingredients.  This recipe was pulled from the book Total Juicing by Jack LaLane published in 1992.

Protein Shake with Almonds and Coconut Milk

July 14, 2015

Protein Shake with Almonds and Coconut Milk

E: This recipe was inspired by Gwyneth’s recipe “homemade almond milk.” This protein shake does in fact resemble horchata as Gwyneth’s recipe suggests. I mixed this with cinnamon, coconut milk and some agave to add some “horchata” taste. This is a protein blaster! Great for an energy booster.

Skinny Margarita with Mint and Cucumber on the Rocks

Skinny Margarita with Mint and Cucumber on the Rocks

Yields: 1 serving

E: Margaritas are the “it” drink at our house. Sam and I went on our first date to Margaritaville in Capitola near Santa Cruz. It might be surprising to say that Sam likes Margaritas more than anyone else I’ve ever met. I read that Margaritas are most popular in the United States, over Mexico. About three years ago Sam and I went to Puerto Vallarta, we went on a tequila tasting tour and got to see how tequila is made. A byproduct of the tequila making process is Mezcal. I’ve seen it become more popular in the past few years. My dad gave Sam a bottle of Mezcal a few years ago because he said it’s an underrated alcohol. For now, I’ll stick to tequila.
